The eagle warriors were a particular class of infantry in the Maya army. They were the elite of the fighters. The rank was given to the best warriors, those who captured the most prisoners in a single battle.


Their high social standing entitled them to certain privileges: jewelry, distinctive clothing, dining at the royal palace, and even eating precious meat.
