Obsidian: beyond its role as an ornamental stone, obsidian is prized for its beneficial energy. It was used as early as the pre-Columbian civilizations to make magical objects. Protective, it is a powerful shield against negative energies. Sharp, it cuts through the dark to reveal the truth about oneself.

Inspired by a Maya tale in which people were created from maize to bring light where there had been nothing but darkness. With the help of a great bird they won the battle, and ever since, animals and humans have lived in harmony.

In time, however, the gods realized that the green of the mountains was beginning to fade, and they decided to appoint a guardian to watch over the balance and keep it. "Kanan" means guardian in Maya.
